I am very excited in the push for the electronic record for many different reasons. My knowledge is based on the system at one of my clinical sites. At your fingertips in that office you can make sure that the med you prescribe will not interact with their current med list and they are not allergic to the medication. This helps providers to improve on their delivery of health care. The transition will take longer with the baby boomers, however with in-services and support I do believe they will find it just as intriguing. Ultimately when we are receiving in-services on EMR;s or giving information to new nurses on the EMR it is important to re-enforce not getting so wrapped up in the computer and not looking at your patient. It is like having a child on continuous cardiac monitoring and only looking at the monitor screen and not the patient.
