RE: Healthcare Informatics Resources (2013 June 6) Future Population Trends [Blog Post] Retrieved from https://healthcare-informatics-resources.com/2013/06/06/future-population-trends-2/

This article was very interesting and I agree that as generations grow more resources for healthcare will have to be available. Changes in society, technology, and healthcare will effect new healthcare systems. People are living longer which stresses the importance of having more health care systems. Technology is becoming increasingly relevant to healthcare. People can use the internet for resources and to get more access to healthcare. Access to technology is very important I think to increase education and will help providers and consumers. I believe with the rate technology is growing we will get more information on cures for diseases and learn alot about healthcare needs.

In this new world of technology nothing stays the same for very long. Technology has become a big part in our society, including our hospitals. We have come a long way from when we could not do heart surgery to where now in some cases heart surgery can be done with minimal invasive technics. Information is easily passed between doctors in order to figure out what the best treatments are and what trial and errors have been done. As technology continues to grow so will the knowledge of our doctors which will hopefully lead to a future of less sickness and diseases.

My comment regarding future population trends is I think the healthcare industry is well prepared for the generation of baby boomers. I work in the OR (Operating Room) and not a day goes by when I am not amazed by the capability of the surgeons I work with. In today’s world, healthcare is very competitive and physicians go over and beyond to be the best. There are many technologies emerging that allow physicians to do more also. Residents are receiving better training than ever before and they are emerging as well trained physicians who are well versed in the current technologies and ready to care for all those who require care. I am confident in the future of medicine and I believe the baby boomers will be in very capable hands.

My comment regarding future population trends is: It is true, people are living longer and having a desire to live a more fulfilling life in old age. Last year we had our first 100+ year old marathon runner in the world. And an article on yahoo.com discussed how very soon the first 120+ year old human being is expected soon. It is wonderful to see medical technology adding us in living longer. However the longer we live the more things break down, and the technology / medicine that keeps us going this extra distance isn’t cheap. We are seeing the effect on this in rising healthcare cost. It is my feeling that besides the difficulty of finding cures for illness, the next big challenge for mankind will be making this technology affordable for all to enjoy.

I’m currently working towards a degree with Health Care IT. I find it interesting that it’s such a growing field and that each generation learns from the one before it. Just recently when I was at the hospital they were just getting their new system for medical records. Even though technology in health care has been around for a long time, every day new ideas are being invented and health care is becoming more advanced. “The healthcare informatics field of study will be fundamental to bridging the gap between Information Technology Departments, Administration, clinical staff, physicians, vendors, and end-users.” (2012)
